Czech approach inspires Europe

Or the important surveying events of 2025. The surveying industry is undergoing dynamic development.

The surveying industry is undergoing a dynamic evolution. The year 2025 is not only in the spirit of the Digitální technické mapy ČR, but also the international interest in the Czech model of professional self-government is growing. Asociace podnikatelů v geomatice (APG) and the newly established Česká komora zeměměřičů (ČKZ) play an important role on the domestic and European scene.

The establishment of theČeské komory zeměměřičů marked a historic milestone for the field

After more than thirty years of effort, the Česká komora zeměměřičů (ČKZ) was founded in 2023 and has become an essential element of the professional life of surveyors and experts in geomatics. The Chamber is a continuation of the work of APG, which has been defending the interests of entrepreneurs in the field since 2018. Establishing the ČKZ has brought standardisation of conditions, strengthening of professional responsibility, and the possibility of official representation of the industry towards the state. This is a step that stabilises the industry and strengthens its credibility.

The Vilnius 2025 mission allowed Czech experts to inspire in the Baltic States

The success of the Czech professional self-government did not go unnoticed abroad. At the end of February 2025, APG Chairman Ing. Martin Hrdlička, together with Ing. Robert Šinkner from ČKZ, attended an international conference in Vilnius entitled “Ar atejo laikas matininku savivaldai?” (English: “Is it time for surveyors to have their self-government?”).

Lithuania, like other Baltic states, is considering whether to create its separate chamber of surveyors or to integrate under a broader engineering chamber. The Czech delegation presented the path to the establishment of the APG and the CKZ, the reasons for their establishment, and their practical functioning, including their connection to strategic projects such as the Digitální technická mapa (DTM).

Of particular note was the Czech ability to bring the professional community together and work on long-term industry goals. Lithuanians, Latvians, and Estonians appreciated the openness and transparency of sharing experiences. For the Czech representatives, the mission brought not only prestige but also new contacts and tasks in the field of international cooperation.

DEN GEOMATIKY Ostrava 2025 shifted the focus to the DTM theme

In March 2025, the Ostrava Clarion Hotel hosted the  DEN GEOMATIKY 2025, organised by APG. The central theme was the Digitální technická mapa ČR (DTM), the implementation of which in regions and cities is revolutionising land management.

The presentations and discussions focused on the practical benefits of the DTM - for example, more accurate planning of investment projects, faster responses to utility failures, and easier decision-making for local governments. The economics of surveying services was also an important topic: how to set fair hourly rates, maintain quality, and ensure the economic stability of firms.

ČKZ, which profiles itself as a guarantor of professionalism and ethics, also presented its activities. Participants appreciated that the Chamber and APG pay attention to the education of professionals, whether they are employees of companies, self-employed persons, or students of technical disciplines.

DEN GEOMATIKY in Česká Lípa will provide space for the presentation of the DTM Liberec Region

The successful event in Ostrava will be followed by another DEN GEOMATIKY, which will take place this October in Villa Hrdlička in Česká Lípa (1 October 2025). This time, the focus will be on the DTM of the Liberec Region - its implementation, good practice, and pitfalls.

The event will be attended by representatives of the Regional Department of Informatics, the Českého úřadu zeměměřického a katastrálního (ČÚZK), ČKZ, as well as mayors, planners, network administrators, and investors. The aim is an open exchange of experience and the search for a common language between experts, municipalities, and data suppliers.

"I believe that the DTM, as a modern management and planning tool, will continue to be essential for the development of our cities and towns. It is important to keep it up to date. As a geodetic company, HRDLIČKA, we are thinking further and we are looking at linking the DTM with modern tools and new technologies, e.g., BIM3D (Building Information Modeling) or data support for MAWIS tools, which will enable efficient management and sustainability of infrastructure," says Ing. Martin Hrdlička.‍

And what will 2026 bring in terms of important surveying events?

Interest in sharing the experience of experts in the field is growing not only within the Czech Republic but also in a foreign context. So you can look forward to interesting conferences and events with an international overlap in 2026 as well. Keep an eye on the websites of ČKZ, APG, or HRDLIČKA spol. s r.o. to find out in advance about upcoming activities.
