Czech Chamber of Surveyors (CKZ)
We are more than half a year since the Constituent Assembly of the Czech Chamber of Surveyors. Despite various apocalyptic forecasts about the inability to start the activities of the CZM, the chamber is gradually succeeding in implementing the obligations given by law and the commitments declared at the chamber's congress. Everything certainly did not go smoothly. The resignation of the elected chairman of ČKZ ing. Ivo Hanzl was perceived very negatively by some members, including myself. However, it turns out that the successor elected by the Executive Committee, ing. Libor Vavrečka is a worthy replacement, and I firmly believe that he will lead the chamber well and for the benefit of the entire industry.
Fortunately, the chamber is not just about the position of chairman. All the chamber bodies have started their work and last but not least the work of the chamber office has started. Gradually, various working groups are being set up, setting their goals and starting their activities. The chamber is also already commenting on new laws and decrees and, crucially, it has been possible to reinstate the authorization tests. Already on 23 May 2024, ten new chartered surveyors were added to our ranks. It is great that, unlike the previous practice, when newcomers obtained their official authorizations by post, the Chamber managed to organize a dignified handover of authorizations to the new members of the CMA on the floor of the Chamber of Deputies. The members are kept informed about the Chamber's events through newsletters, which is a proven method of communication in similar organizations.
Of course, it is necessary to give the chamber more time, everything is new, both for the chamber bodies and for ordinary members. We need to align together and create a team of people who may have different business interests or may not be a good personal fit, but who should develop their profession and expertise together so that the CCC, and by extension the industry, becomes an emancipated technical entity that has something to say in its field of interest and, most importantly, is listened to by others. So far, this is on the right track.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that the Chamber succeeds at least as well as it has so far, meets the expectations of its members, and overcomes all the obstacles that still await it on its way to becoming a fully-fledged branch organization.

AZI - Authorised Land Surveyor, formerly Officially Authorised Land Surveyor (AAL)
Who is an AZI? This is a good term to remember as they are professional, university-educated engineers with a high level of expertise and responsibility in the field of land surveying. This field is essential to the construction industry, land use planning, property management, and many other areas.
A chartered land surveyor has earned his or her authorization by meeting strict professional requirements, which qualify him or her to perform complex surveying tasks. To obtain the authorization, one must graduate from a university with a specialization in land surveying, then perform a mandatory internship under the supervision of experienced AZIs, and pass an examination before a professional board after acquiring the necessary knowledge. Once authorized, the AZI has all the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out his/her professional activities. The authorized land surveyor shall bear full responsibility for the correctness and accuracy of his/her measurement results, which he/she shall verify with a round stamp bearing the state emblem and certify with his/her signature. He is an equal partner to designers, builders, architects, developers, and others.
A chartered surveyor plays a key role in many areas of modern society. His work ensures accurate and reliable information. Thanks to his expertise and authorization, he is a guarantor of quality and accuracy, which is essential for the sustainability and safety of our buildings.
